Robert Churchwell, III – President & CEO
Robert has a combined 30+ years of coaching, parenting, tutoring, teaching and mentoring experience. His journey into the world of service began as a sophomore at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, DC where the motto is "Men for others." As a senior, Robert was awarded on of the school's highest honors: The Civitan Key. This honor is awarded to the senior who best displays good citizenship and service in the community. Walking over to the tough Sursum Corda neighborhood to tutor kids in math and reading really taught Robert two valuable lessons: One, how fortunate and blessed he was; and two, how good it felt to see the looks on kid's faces as they learned how to do their school work.
Robert's work in the community and amongst his peers continued throughout his time as a student athlete at Georgetown University. Robert was one of several black students in the early 90's who met to discuss life as a black student in a predominately white, private university. The group met to discuss how to empower each other while also forming better relationships with professors and fellow students. Under the leadership of Fr. Raymond Kemp, Robert was instrumental in the creation of the religion course "Struggle and Transcendence." As a senior during the course's first semester in existence, Robert helped teach the course which is still a popular class today.
Since 1987 Robert has used his love and passion for basketball to take him all over the world. Everywhere his travels have taken him, Robert always made time to help kids in the local community. From speaking at elementary, middle and high schools in Chicago, IL and Karina City, Japan, to speaking at the Fellowship of Christian Athlete's events in Acworth, GA, to visiting the burn and cancer unit at a children's hospital in Manchester, England, to working and directing basketball camps nationally and internationally from Washington, DC to Germany to France, Robert has a committed passion to help the youth of the work achieve success.
Robert resides in Virginia with his wife Janelle and children Ryan, Dominique, Jaxon, Robert, IV "Elex", and Reagan.
